HDD install

- Start your computer in DOS mode.

- Insert Disk 1. Go to the FDD root, then type :

INSTALL.EXE (enter)

- Choose the HDD where you want to install the game. Press SPACE. Press SPACE again.

- Change the disks when the program asks for it.

You don't need the disks to play after this!

Start the game

- Start you computer in DOS mode.

- Go to the root of the HDD you installed the game, then type :

CD DANGEL (enter)

DANGEL (enter)

- If you have a black screen at the beginning, or no sound during the game, it is usually related to the sound driver. You can try to launch NAX' before launching DANGEL. (see the video on the right).

HDD install

- Start your computer in DOS mode.

- Make sure that the Doom "Starting Disk" [ 起動DISK ] is in "write-enable" mode.

- Insert the Doom "Starting Disk" [ 起動DISK ] into the FDD.

- Go to the FDD root. (C: in my case).

- Type the command: INSTALL. Follow the instructions.

- Press ENTER to confirm each step.

- The installation will ask you to insert each Disk from 1 to 6 ( 起動DISK ).

You don't need the disks to play after this!

Start the Game

- Go to the root of the HDD you installed the game.

then type :

CD DOOM (enter)

SETUP (enter)

- You can now configure the video mode, music mode, audio mode, and control.

For audio mode, you should avoid the PC-9801-86 and PCM onboard options as it generate sound bugs. If you don't have a soundblaster, just use the Beep sound !

Then save and play ! Enjoy !

Start the Game

- Start you computer with the "program disk" in floppy drive 1 and "scenario 1" in floppy drive 2.

- You can watch the intro or press ESC for starting the game.

-Don't forget to remove the write security on "program disk", or the game cannot start.

Enjoy !

HDD install

- be careful that all your discs are "write-protect" mode.

- Start your computer in DOS mode.

- Insert Disk C in the FDD.

- Go to the FDD root. (C: in my case), then type :

INSTALL A: (A is the letter of my HDD) (enter)

The install will start.

You will have to insert disks A to L when the program asks for them.

Be careful, the disks will load automatically when you insert them. Don't touch any key !

You don't need the disks to play after this!

Start the Game

- Go to the root of the HDD you installed the game.

then type :

CD DRA4 (enter)

HDD install

- Start your computer in DOS mode.

- Insert "System Disk" in the FDD.

- Go to the HDD root (where you want to install the game), then type :

 C:INST C: (C is the letter for FDD drive) (enter)

The install will start.

Change the disk when the program ask, and press a key to start each disk.

You don't need the disks to play after this!

Start the Game

- Go to the root of the HDD you installed the game.

then type :

CD 5TH2 (enter)

FE2 (enter)

Start the Game

- Start your computer with "disk 1" in disk drive 1 and "disk 2" in disk drive 2.

- Select mouse support in the first menu. And sound device in the second menu (IF board for a Midi device through midi sound board)

- In the main menu select second option to launch the intro, and third option to launch the game directly. First option is for loading saves. Don't forget to unprotect the disk if you want to save. You can also create a separate disk for saves.

HDD installation

- First, you need to create a DOS boot disk for booting the game after the installation. You will be asked to insert this disc during the installation. You can follow this tutorial to create the disc base :

How to creat a DOS boot disk

- Start your computer in DOS mode.

- Insert the CD-ROM in the drive.

- Go to CD drive root, then type :

 INSTDDS (enter)

The install will start.

- The program will ask you to insert the boot disc (floppy disc), to copy the following files :

HIMEM.SYS / EMM386.EXE / SMARTDRV.EXE / MOUSE.COM

You should have these files somewhere in DOS or Windows folder. The program will search the files in the computer for you.

Mouse speed

The installation is not really finished, because if you launch the game just now, you will notice that the mouse speed is really slow. To change the speed mouse, you have to write a little bit of code in the "autoexec.bat" file of the "boot disk".

- insert your boot disk in a computer with windows installed.

- change the name of "autoexec.bat" to "autoexec.txt".

- open the file, and add this line under MOUSE line :

MOUSE /S100 /H100 /V100

save the file, and change the name back to "autoexec.bat.

S100, H100, V100 means S = 100, H = 100, V = 100.

100 is the maximum speed 000 is the minimum. You can change the number to increase or decrease the speed.

Start the Game

After that just insert the Boot disk in the FDD before booting your PC. The game will start automaticly.

HDD install

- First, you need to create a DOS "boot disk" for booting the game after the installation.

You can follow this tutorial to create the disc base :

How to creat a DOS boot disk

- Start your computer with the "boot disk" inside (A: must be FDD letter)

- After DOS is booting, remove de "boot disk" and insert the "DISK 0" of the game.

Then type :

 HDDINST (enter)

The install will start.

Follow the instruction by pressing "Enter".

Choose the HDD letter you want to install on.

The installation will copy the content of the "Disk 1 to 4" on HDD. (the installation on video is fast, as the files where already present on my HDD - 2nd installation). Just insert the correct floppy when the program ask, and press enter each time.

At the end, you will have to insert the "boot disk". The program will copy the boot code on it.

Start the Game

To start the game, just boot your PC with the "boot disk" inside the FDD.

Et voilà !

HDD install

- Start your computer in DOS mode.

- Insert the Master disk "マスターディスク" in the FDD.

- Go to the FDD root, then type :

INSTALL (enter)

The program will ask you to insert :

Master disk "マスターディスク"

Opening disk "オープニング"

Scenario disks 1 tot 8 "シナリオ"

Each time of the process, press "Enter" to launch the data copy.

You don't need the discs anymore to play !

Start the Game

To start the game, just boot your PC in DOS mode, then go to the game directory and launch the game :

CD ED3-98 (enter)

HDD install

It's better to choose an installation through DOS than Windows if you have a PC-9801-86 sound card, because there is a risk of audio drivers conflicts.

- Start your computer in DOS mode. Insert the CD in the drive.

- Go to CD root and type :

INSTALL (enter)

Choose the HDD letter and press enter.

You don't need the disc anymore to play !

Start the Game

To start the game, just boot your PC in DOS mode, then go to the game directory and launch the game :

CD ¥FALCOM (enter)

ED4 (enter)

For MIDI sound, the manual recommand using the SC-88 Midi decoder. Press the button ALL then 55 map.

HDD install

Edit : before starting, you should prepare a floppy disc with HIMEM.sys file on it. You will need this file during the installation.

- First, create a boot disc with DOS (tutorial)

- Reset the PC and boot with the disc.

- Change the disc with the 1st disc of the game and type

INSTALL (enter)

Validate choices by press Y

- After installing the 3 discs, the program will ask you to confirm screen and sound settings. If you want to change it, say no (N), and change it.

- At the end, you will have to insert again the boot disk that you created before. The program will write on it.

- When the program asks for HIMEM file, you will have to remove the disc and find a disc with HIMEM on it (I tried 3 times, with DOS system disks, and finally found it !). Edit : you should prepare this before installation to avoid loosing time !

After copying the HIMEM file, the program need to paste it on the boot disk. Then insert the boot disk and the installation will finish.

You will need the boot disk AND the 3rd system disk to play the game.

Start the Game

To start the game, just boot your PC with the boot disk inside.

Insert the 3rd system disk of the game when the program ask for.

HDD installation

- Start your PC in DOS 5.0 or more with the game CD in the CD-ROM player.

- Then type :

E: (CD-ROM letter)

INSTALL C: (HDD letter)

- It will take around 5 minutes to install.

If you want to play the game with FM sound only, you can just start the game and play.

Boot disc

- Create a boot disc with DOS (tutorial)

- Reset the PC and boot with the floppy disc (boot disc) to play the game. (With support of FM sound only)

MIDI sound settings

If you want to play with MIDI sound, you will have to add some files on the floppy boot disc.

- Boot you PC in windows mode.

- Go to game directory and copy the file CONFIG.MID to your floppy boot disc.

- Rename the file CONFIG.SYS. Edit the file and suppress the DOS directory in the HIMEM and EMM386 adresses (see the video).

- You will have to add 2 files usually hard to find... these are the sames files you had to get for the Policenauts boot disc (I took it in the Policenauts boot disc in the video) : HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE.

- Copy those files on the floppy boot disc.

Now you can restart your PC and boot the game with MIDI support !

Start the game

To start the game, boot your PC with the boot disc inside.

Then type :

C: (HDD letter)

HDD installation

- Start your computer in DOS mode.

- Go to the FDD letter, then type :

install a: (choose the letter of the HDD you want to install on)

- The game will install each disk. It takes lot of time !

Start the Game

- Start the PC in DOS mode, and go to the game directory :

CD ¥PRETTY (enter)

- Insert he Disk A of the game inside the FDD, then type :

AUTOEXEC (enter)

You will need to insert the game disk each time. i guess it's a security against copy.

HDD installation

- Start your computer in DOS mode.

- Go to the FDD letter, then type :

ALSMENU C: (letter of FDD) A: (letter of HDD)

(enter)

The program will start to install automaticly the 5 disks. Just insert the disks when the program asks for.

Start the Game

- Start the PC in DOS mode, and go to the game directory :

CD ALICE_MU (enter)

Then start the game :

MUGEN (enter)

HDD installation

- Create a DOS boot disc (see tutorial here)

- Boot the PC with the boot disk.

- Insert Disk A at the place of the boot disk.

Then, type :

INSTHD C (letter of the HDD) (enter)

Insert each disk when the program ask for, and press enter each time to copy the disk contents.

At the end, the program will ask for the DOS boot disk.

Insert it, and the program will copy the files on the boot disk.

Start the Game

Insert the Dos boot disk with the program installed.

The game will boot, will ask you for color of black and white screen. Then you will have to insert hte disk A to play.

Enjoy !

HDD installation

- Start your computer in DOS mode.

- Insert Floppy disc 0 in the FDD. Then type :

Start the Game

It took 3 month for me to understand how to launch the game on HDD on PC-9821.

Theorically, the game cannot be launch because DOS memory limitation (640kb). The game ask for 600kb of EMS memory + 60kb of UMB memory. Total 660kb.

Some people created a DOS memory emulator. Then you can use a part of ram for DOS memory.

Then for playing game via HDD, you will need to create a boot floppy disc with this emulator. You can find the way to create this boot disc HERE.

- Insert the Memory emulator Disc in the FDD and turn the PC ON.

THe first time, verify that the priority is on UMB : Type :

VEMENV UMB

Then restart.

- find the place of the game on HDD

CD DM98MK2 (enter)

DM98MK2 (enter)

- Play !

The best way to play the game is to have a keyboard emulator pad !
