I finally cleared my 200th RPG ! My wife did me a great surprise this morning with this congratulation breakfast ! My 200th RPG was Zelda 1 on Famicom Disk. It was a great and inovating game, even if it cannot reach the level of his little brother, "A link to the past" on SNES.

I just discovered yesterday, that it is possible to launch software written for Dos 2.xx, 3.xx on Epson version of DOS 5.0! It was previously impossible on newer model of PC98 because of the HDD size requirement. It may not be obvious, but Dos 2/3 actually requires a HDD smaller than 120MB to run. Since newer models of PC98 often come with HDD larger than 120MB, Dos 2/3 cannot be installed and these newer models cannot run software written for them.

The good news is that Dos 5.0 (Epson) can emulate Dos2/3, so I can now install games like Legend of Heroes 2 or Popful Mail on a newer model of PC-98!

I added the new PC-98 in boot disc section.

I started the PC-98 installation tutorials, and it took a lot of time to explain and take videos ! That's why I am late for writing Laserdisc movies reviews ! You can see the tutorials in the game category of PC-98 section : Games.

I also started my youtube channel to show complete walkthrough of PC-98 games, plus, if I have time, translation of the scenario !

If you like striptease scenes in movies, you may have a little smile every time a character enters a strip bar, expecting some interesting poses or sexy dances from the most beautiful women in the world! You may also have noticed that those scenes occur generally in the worst movies ever! And especially pole dance scenes.

To prove this strange theory (pole dance scenes and bad movies) and also for fun, I have decided to search all these scenes inside my LDs movies! If you know movies like this, please give me a shout ! Let's start !

Sorry everyone ! Long time no see... and no movies articles since a month now... I was a little bit busy, by my work, and also my AV configuration.

My TV finally died last month, and I had to think about a new way to see movies. I didn't want to buy an other LCD, or fancy OLED screen, as it will propaly die again in some years. Recently the TVs are very beautiful in the show window. Colors and contrast are superbe, they does 4K etc. But after some years, burns appears, whites are becoming yellow, pixel dies... and the worst is when it dies, you still have a big black pannel not recyclable until you decide to pay again to trow it in the apropriate place.Then I decide to not buy a new TV, but a Video Projector ! Advantages are great ! No more heavy black TV, a screen of 80 inch, no more NHK TV tax to pay !!! lot of advantage.

But it took me a lot of time to choose a projector and install it.

Recently I was focusing on the laserdisc section. But I took some time to update the PC-98 category! Now you can find lots of information and new pictures about the most unknown and hard to understand game platform. At first, Merry Christmas!

This week is special. I will not write any article about movies. I just started to add scans of interesting articles of the french magazine : "Les Années Laser". It was a fantastic magazine about LD and audio-video units of the 90's.

I will only add some scans of LD reviews or interesting AV units. All are in french, but if you want to understand specific sentences, you can ask me!

From this month on, I will try to add a movie review every week! As I get my Lumagen, I can finally do high resolution capture!

My reviews are in French. You can read it only if you understand French, or you can use google translation! But the result may look a little bit strange.

These reviews are full of spoilers, because they are movie analyses. So please, watch the movie before reading the articles.

Happy birthday !

This week is my birthday, and my wife cooked a superb tiramisu with LD logo for me ! Beautiful and simple logo. Delicious tiramisu! Thank you ^^!

As a present, she gave me 5 issues of the magazine "les années laser", a French magazine of the 90's about laserdisc. I now have 10 issues, and I am going to scan some pages and add it to the LD section. Maybe this year.

It took me one month to get a prefectly working LD-X1 and a lot of money.

First, I did a bid on Yahoo for a superb version of the player : absolutly no wear, no scratch. With the original box, remote control, and manual. And the big, very big thing is the official RF-AC3 mod added by MSB. It costed me $750.

The bad news was that its image quality was far from perfect. Lot of artifacts and distorted patterns (waves).

One month later, I decided to call Pioneer to take care of my player. Today, the King has returned! It came back in perfectly working condition! It's the third time I use the service of Pioneer. I have to say that the technician I met each time was really professional. We had some discussion about LD players, and Pioneer's good old days (longtime ago...). It costed me $200 more for repairment. The problem came from some old capacitors. He changed them. He also changed all the grease, and belts. The player should work for years without problem now!

Last December, I decided to buy a CLD-959, which has the same parts as the CLD-97 in US, except that it cannot turn DNR off.

I was literally chocked by the quality of the player. The image is better than every player I've ever owned.

I got it for $150. The player had a loud motor. And I decided this month to have it repaired by Pioneer Japan. It costed me an other $150. Then, in total, I spent $300 to get a fully working machine.

They changed the motor to get rid of the noise, so it is no longer a problem now. On face B, there is still a little noise. The pick up is sometimes vibrating. Pioneer told me they couldn't fix it, as they didn't have new pick up. But it is a minor problem. It is OK for me. I will write a review of the player in the LD player category!

This picture is a model of the K-Computer building, which houses the super computer in Kobe. Last week, I managed to enter the building and visit a little museum about the Computer! It was fantastic!

I finally get the legendary PC-9801-86 ! I found it for 11.000 yens ! (around 100 $). With full set : box, manual, card, cables. The card is in perfect condition ! No rot, or bad soldering. I did some quick test, and she worked with all my games ! And especially Policenauts that I could finally get it working with lip sync! I am so happy!

PC-98 section

Yesterday my HLD-X0 finally broke. I bought it 2 years ago and saw maybe 400 movies/anime with it. Some CAV disc had skipping problems at the end of the disc.

Then I am a little bit anxious about the future of my player, but maybe pioneer will do something for the CAV problem.

Today, 2 engineers from Pioneer came to my house. They took the 36 kg player with lots of care. Thank you! They told me that they can't change the pick up nowdays, because they don't have any hi-vision pickup. I knew it, but I think the problem is in the motor. It should be alright.

Now I have to wait. I will post again for results !
